Wordstuck is a project initiated by Mark Cuyos in which he catalogs untranslatable words from different languages. The word are all very interesting and more so because they do not have a single-word English counterpart. Some of them sound weird, some of them sound cool or some of them explain something we have all felt and Mark Cuyos Is bringing them to us using gifs. By using gifs, Mark Cuyos managed to set himself apart and stand out in the crowd and his project, Wordstuck became an instant hit.
“Wordstuck is a collection of different interesting words, mostly from other languages that do not have direct English translation,” Cuyos said. “Some just sound lovely, or weird, while others are words we’ve felt or experienced, something we came to pass by everyday that we never been able to name, or something we never thought there exist words for them.”
Mark Cuyos started to gather interesting words in a notebook when he was 17. He would then read them to his friends and have a laugh. Today Mark is 20 and his gifs are being read by everyone. The fact that he uses gifs gives the words a whole new dimension. He illustrates them rather than repeat them and as a result Wordstuck is a very cool project.
“It is for curious people who seek adventures in discovering words and languages around the world, use them in writings, or in conversations, a reference to be kept in memory or in a journal, or a reminder to name for something that happened or will happen in the future.”
What do you think of Mark Cuyos’ idea? Do you know any words that would go great with Wordstuck? We’d love to read your thoughts in the comment section below!
