Frank Gehry Dazzles Once More with His Fish Lamps

Frank Gehry

Frank Gehry is one of America’s most famous architects. All those who study architecture stumble across his works in their courses at one point or another. He established his practice in 1962 in Los Angeles, California. Some of his buildings have become tourist attractions throughout the years. His works are among the most important architectural projects of the contemporary period.

Frank Gehry is the winner Canadian-American Pritzker Prize. Among his works we can name museums, concert halls and art galleries created all across the world. It comes as no surprise that whatever project he wishes to tackle is sure to be an impressive one. As a result, his recent work, the Creative Fish Lamps does not disappoint.

For all his life Frank Gehry had another big passion apart from architectural design. That passion can be summed in one word: fish. Twenty five years ago, while working on a project, the architect shattered a sheet of ColorCore laminate. His creative mind did not see the result as a worthless disaster, but rather recognized the resemblance between the colourful shards and fish scales. Soon afterwards, his creativity went in overdrive and he created an outstanding series of fish lamps made of metal framework and the ColorCore shards. Now, twenty five years later, he returns with a new version of his much loved fish lamps.

The original creations are considered amazing works of art that travel from one museum to another. The new series of fish lamps was presented earlier this year, first at Gagosian Beverly Hill and later in Paris. As with the versions created between 1984 and 1986, the fish lamps are made of ColorCore shards and a metal framework.

It is almost certain that Frank Gehry’s new fish lamps will achieve the same amount of fame as his first artworks did. Would you like to see them at an art exposition?
