Julian Rentzsch is an illustrator based in Hamburg. He decided to team up with Steffen Heidemann and Viktoria Klein, the members of an independent design studio called Stellavie in order to bring an unique project to life. The artist decided to create a series of posters where he featured famous directors merged with their most iconic movies. So far the famous directors chosen by the team are three: Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese and David Lynch. For each of them, a poster has been created.
Each prints shows the directors meshed with their groundbreaking work that changed the history of cinematography. By putting together the face of each man with images from their movies, the viewer gets to appreciate the finer details of their work. At the bottom of each poster the team added a quote from each of the three famous directors. This quote neatly sums up their approach to film making.
“Our main goal with the prints is to inspire others to look behind the scenes!,” the explained.
The collaboration between the three was not just in word. Each of them brought his own input to the overall project. Julian was the one who created the illustrations. However, Viktoria and Steffen helped him out with concept and worked in post-production. Their contribution meant “assisting in the typography, credits, blind embossing and photography.” All three posters were made both analogue and digital format. Pen, ink and watercolors were needed for the analogue part. After putting the finishing touches the posters were printes as high quality giclée/fine-art prints. The canvas chosen for this particular project was cotton paper stock.
With the first batch finished, the team has started working on a second one. Two of the directors chosen for it are g Tim Burton and Stanley Kubrick. “The third director is not yet cast in stone,” they explained. Some of the nominated directors are Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino and Woody Allen.
Who do you think is going the best the chosen one for the second batch of famous director posters?
